DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Paracas (during COVID)

The DoubleTree Resort by Hilton in Paracas wins above all with its outstanding value for money. The peaceful location on the edge of the nature reserve and the friendly service make for a pleasant stay, even if the only way to reach the bus station is by taxi. For a beach holiday in Peru, this resort is a clear recommendation.

Booking

I made the booking through the Hilton app. I initially booked a cancellable reservation for 2 nights, choosing a standard room with 2 beds.

Location

The hotel is about 4 kilometres from the Paracas bus station. Unfortunately, unlike other cities in Peru, Uber is not really available in Paracas. The WiFi at the bus station hasn’t improved much compared to 2019. The hotel sits at the far end of Paracas, almost adjacent to the nature reserve. This means you hardly hear any road noise, as there’s no real through-road or shortcut running past. Restaurants and tourist activities are about a twenty-minute walk away. A taxi is also an option, and with the usual caution you can get around safely even at night.

Check-In

Check-in was quick and friendly. My Diamond status helped secure a room with a sea view. During this period, room service was also provided without any additional charges.

Room

The first impression of the room is quite good. The entrance area opens into a living room with a comfortable sofa and a table. The bathroom comes next on the left side, acting as a divider between the living area and the sleeping area.

The sleeping area has a full-width window facing the sea. As was typical during COVID, the minibar was empty, but two bottles of water were replenished daily.

Opposite the bed there was a TV with the main channels from South and North America.

The bathroom is adequate and clean. Instead of a shower cubicle, it features a bathtub. Toiletries were also provided, as is standard with the Hilton brand and sufficient for a short stay.

Amenities

There is a large, unheated pool that makes for a refreshing dip. There is also a large, heated whirlpool reserved for adults only, with direct access to the bar.

Restaurant

The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating. Breakfast is served as a generous buffet that includes local specialities. Dinner is à la carte, featuring Peruvian specialities alongside international dishes. Prices are no higher than the tourist traps along the promenade, which was reason enough for us to enjoy our meals in this much nicer setting.

Check-Out

Check-out was straightforward and friendly — we were even able to arrange a late check-out and make full use of the pool and spa facilities right until the end.

Verdict

For the price, the stay was sensational. The location is very quiet, yet everything is within walking distance or easily reachable by an affordable taxi from the bus station.
