Booking
For a spontaneous trip, the destination was Antwerp. As always, I booked the room directly through Hilton and managed to save a little extra via a cashback site. On top of that came the additional perks as a Diamond Member in the form of an upgrade from the booked King Guest Room to a King Junior Suite — which was already visible in the app before check-in, something I really appreciate.
Location
We arrived in Antwerp in the evening coming from Brussels. The hotel is located (as the name suggests) right in Antwerp’s old town at Groenplaats 32. Arriving by train means factoring in about a 20-minute walk — Antwerp Centraal is approximately 1.5 kilometres away.
Check-In
Check-in went smoothly and quickly. The staff thanked us for our loyalty to Hilton and informed us about the Executive Lounge opening hours and other amenities.
Adjacent to the lobby there is a bar as well as the room where breakfast is served in the morning.
Should you feel peckish or thirsty at any point, there is also the option to purchase something directly on-site. You simply scan the items and pay right there.
Room
Here you could definitely feel the age of the hotel. No criticism as such, but certain signs of wear and tear were quite noticeable.
Upon entering the room, on the left side you find the wardrobe with safe, along with a kettle and coffee machine.
Beyond that is the bed, a sofa, and a small desk.
By the time you reach the bathroom, the hotel’s age becomes very apparent. It is functional, but certainly not particularly modern. That said, it was clean and had everything needed for a short stay. The toiletries, by the way, come in the small individual bottles rather than the large dispensers that are becoming increasingly common in hotels.
Unfortunately without a photo: the welcome gift in the form of a bottle of red wine and sweets — a truly very thoughtful gesture.
Amenities
Due to the short visit, I can unfortunately only comment on the Executive Lounge and the evening offering. In the evening there was a small selection of food (which was actually very good) and (alcoholic) drinks. However, these are only available during Happy Hour, which runs from 6 to 8 pm. Soft drinks, coffee, and tea are available throughout the day.
One special feature is that you can step directly from the lounge onto a terrace, making it a lovely spot to wind down the evening.
Verdict
Value for money was genuinely good and the location is a huge plus for this Hilton. Add to that the excellent status recognition, which is no longer a given to this extent everywhere. If the hotel were to invest a little in renovating the rooms, I would come back without hesitation.
