Hotel Hilton Barcelona (during COVID)

The Hilton Barcelona offers a clean room in a decent location for a one-night stay, though it's showing its age in some respects. Despite COVID restrictions, the service impressed with friendliness and quick problem-solving. A solid choice for a short stay at a good price.

Booking

For a stay in Barcelona, the fairly affordable Hilton Barcelona caught our eye. As always, I booked directly through Hilton to take advantage of status benefits — and yes, again through a cashback site, even if the cashback wasn’t particularly generous.

Check-In

It took about 30 minutes by taxi from Barcelona airport. The check-in at the hotel was — I’d say — okay. No room upgrade was offered, even though suites were still available and being sold. We were assigned a room on the 10th floor and the amenities were explained to us. Unfortunately, the lounge was still closed, but I already knew that in advance. The front desk did try to upsell us a suite, which we declined.

Room

Somewhat typical Hilton. The bathroom with a shower is on the right side. It was clean and felt freshly renovated. Toiletries were also well stocked.

Bathroom with towel rack and bidet

Otherwise, the room was dominated by two beds.

In the wardrobe there was an (empty) minibar, a kettle with instant coffee and tea, as well as an ironing board and a safe.

All in all, it was perfectly adequate.

On the other side of the bed there was a TV and a fairly comfortable chair.

Unfortunately, there were no water bottles in the room. However, after a quick call to reception, they were promptly delivered.

Fitness

How best to put it? Small but perfectly formed? Not particularly large, but certainly fine for a workout.

Executive Lounge

Due to COVID, the Executive Lounge is currently closed. As an alternative, the bar offers a happy hour, with small snacks and two drinks per guest.

Check-Out

Check-out was handled digitally. Unfortunately, I initially didn’t receive an invoice, which I found hard to understand. After calling the hotel, however, I received it within an hour. The points credit was also incorrect — 14 base points is really very little. A call to Hilton resolved this quickly, and the correct points were credited in no time. Thanks to current promotions, the final tally turned out to be quite good.

Verdict

Absolutely fine for one night — the room was clean, though some things were not quite up to date (the door lock being one example). That said, the service was genuinely very friendly and I’d certainly be happy to return.
