Booking

I made the booking through the Hilton app. I booked the cheapest room, a King Guest Room, as I was only in Johannesburg for one night before heading on to Plettenberg Bay. The hotel was to be the starting point of my South Africa trip.

Location

From Johannesburg Airport (JNB), the hotel is four stops away by train. Alternatively, the hotel — located in the Sandton district — can of course also be reached by Uber or taxi. For restaurants and tourist activities, you’ll need to factor in about twenty minutes on foot or use the free hotel shuttle.

Check-In

As I arrived late in the morning, I was pleasantly surprised to find that check-in was already possible. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and my Diamond status helped me secure an upgrade to a King Deluxe Room.

Room

The first impression of the room is quite good. In the entryway, the living area began with a comfortable sofa and a table.

To the left of the sleeping area is the bathroom. In the sleeping area there was a work desk, a cosy armchair and a dresser for clothes.

The bathroom is adequate and clean. In addition to a shower, there was also a bathtub. Toiletries were also provided, as is standard with the Hilton brand, and perfectly sufficient for a short stay. Unfortunately I forgot to take photos of it.

Amenities

There is both a pool area and a bar — unfortunately the weather wasn’t pleasant enough for me to want to use the pool.

Restaurant

Breakfast is available as a generous buffet; as a Diamond member, breakfast is included. Unfortunately, due to Covid measures, not everything was available.

Lounge

As a Diamond member, or by booking an Executive room, you have access to the lounge. Food is served depending on the time of day. I had decided to have a steak in Sandton, but did use the lounge for refreshments.

Check-Out

Check-out was again straightforward and friendly. A shuttle to Sandton station was arranged, and I was able to reach the airport again quickly.

Verdict

The stay was fair value for the price. The location is very quiet and safe, yet everything is within extended walking distance or reachable cheaply by Uber or shuttle.
