At Berlin Airport there are several airport hotels. But only two are truly within walking distance: the Steigenberger Airport Hotel (review here) and the IntercityHotel Berlin Airport. That’s exactly why I decided to spend a night at the IntercityHotel — to see how it holds up in a direct comparison.
Location
As already mentioned: the location is excellent. The IntercityHotel is just a few minutes’ walk from the terminal — right next to the Steigenberger. No coincidence, as both hotels belong to the same hotel group. For anyone who values short distances, that’s already a big plus.
Check-In
Honestly, the check-in didn’t go very smoothly for me. Even though I had already checked in online, I was first directed to a self-service kiosk — which then didn’t work. A staff member helped me out, but I had to enter all my details again. Somewhat cumbersome, especially when arriving late or needing to leave early.
Room
The room was somewhat more compact than in the neighbouring Steigenberger, but made a fresh and functional impression.
To the left of the entrance is the bathroom with a walk-in shower. On the positive side: the sink offers plenty of counter space, and shampoo and shower gel are available in eco-friendly bulk dispensers.
In the entrance area: a luggage rack, a small (empty) mini-fridge, and complimentary water.
What I particularly appreciated: a coffee machine and a kettle are available at no extra charge. Even though I didn’t try the breakfast — a fresh coffee in the morning is always a highlight for me.
The bed takes up most of the room, as usual. There’s also an armchair and a small table — not ideal for working, but at least it’s there. Finding power outlets is no problem either; someone clearly thought that through.
Amenities
In the entrance area there is a bar and a small restaurant. Breakfast is also offered — unfortunately I wasn’t able to take any photos and ended up at the Lufthansa Lounge in the terminal instead.
Up on the fifth floor: a small fitness room and a sauna.
The fitness centre is accessible daily from 07:00 to 22:00 — quite decent for an airport hotel.
The sauna costs an extra €15 and is open from 17:00 to 22:00.
Check-Out
I just wanted to quickly drop off my key card, but was politely — in true Berlin fashion — informed that they first needed to check whether everything had been paid for. Slightly unusual, but somehow fitting with the check-in experience.
Verdict
If the price is right and I have an early flight, I would definitely stay here again — not because of the service, but because of the unbeatable location. You can walk to the terminal in just a few minutes, the room was clean and quiet, and I slept well. For one night before departure: absolutely practical and recommended!
