Booking
Buenos Aires was meant to be the centerpiece of my South America trip. I made the booking through the IHG Rewards app and opted for an IHG Rewards points redemption — the value per point was simply excellent, especially taking the IHG points sale into account.
Location
Buenos Aires has two airports: one in the city (AEP) and one outside (EZE). The InterContinental is located in the Monserrat neighborhood. It’s about 10 kilometers from AEP and roughly 32 kilometers from EZE. Retiro train station is just over three kilometers away. Within walking distance you’ll find several restaurants, smaller shops, the Teatro Colón, and the Obelisco.
Check-In
Check-in went smoothly as expected — I arrived in the evening via EZE. I wasn’t assigned the base room category either; instead I received a business room on the 12th floor.
Room
The first impression of the room was good, keeping in mind that this is IHG’s luxury brand. Both the entryway and the room itself are reasonably well lit. On the right side is the bathroom with a bathtub and toilet. I was pleasantly surprised by how bright the bathroom was. The usual essential toiletries (shower gel and shampoo) were available.
The room itself features comfortable armchairs beside the bed, a small coffee table, and a proper work desk.
The TV is adjustable and can be viewed comfortably from both the sofa and the bed. In the entryway, the coat closet, safe, and ironing board are neatly integrated into the built-in wardrobe.
Power outlets are conveniently distributed throughout the room, and the desk also has international sockets (EU/USA).
Amenities
The fitness room on the first floor is generously equipped and accessible at any time via the elevator, which requires a key card to operate. The pool is on the same floor, though it’s not the kind of pool setup that would justify spending much time there.
Restaurant
Breakfast is available as a buffet depending on the restaurant. The ground floor has plenty of comfortable seating and houses the café. Restaurant Chez Bertrand is styled in a French manner — very elegant with good food. The bar is well-stocked, though at the higher end of the price range. For most meals, I ate out in the city.
Check-Out
Check-out was again straightforward and friendly; I simply had to pay the city tax on top. A taxi could have been arranged for me as well, had I wanted one.
Verdict
The stay was worth the points redeemed. A typical InterContinental hotel — the only downside is that time has taken its toll on the property, which shows in certain details.
