Booking
Kuala Lumpur wasn’t originally part of my travel plans across Asia and Oceania — it came to me spontaneously while searching for hotels in Singapore, where I had planned to spend one night before flying on to Ho Chi Minh City. I made the booking through the IHG Rewards website to take advantage of cashback. As an Ambassador, you can book the lowest available rate and still receive an upgrade plus breakfast included for up to two people.
Location
The hotel is well located in my view — there’s a metro station within walking distance and it sits close to the Petronas Towers. That said, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) is roughly 45 minutes away by taxi. Since I arrived late in Kuala Lumpur, the train option to the hotel was no longer available.
Check-In
Check-in was a busy affair despite my arrival just after midnight. Staff were friendly, assigned me my upgraded room, and gave a brief rundown of the hotel.
Room
The first impression of the room is good — though given that this is IHG’s luxury brand, a refurbishment wouldn’t go amiss in my opinion. The entryway and the room as a whole are well lit. On the left side is the bathroom with a bathtub and toilet. I was pleasantly surprised by how bright the bathroom was. The usual toiletries are provided, including cotton swabs, a razor, and so on.
The room itself features comfortable armchairs alongside the bed, a small coffee table, and a proper work desk.
The TV is easily visible from both the sofa and the bed. In the entryway, the wardrobe houses the coat rack, safe, and ironing board.
Power outlets are conveniently placed throughout the room, and the desk also offers international sockets (EU/USA).
Amenities
The fitness room is generously equipped and accessible at any time via a key-card-operated elevator. The outdoor pool is on the same floor. It’s a pleasant pool area that, combined with the bar, creates a genuine holiday atmosphere and makes an extended stay well worthwhile.
Restaurant
Breakfast is served as a buffet. As is typical of InterContinentals across Asia, the extensive spread is complemented by live cooking stations for Asian dishes and egg preparations. The ground floor has plenty of comfortable seating and houses the café. The bar is well stocked, though on the pricier side.
Check-Out
Check-out was again straightforward and friendly. Since I was heading to the airport via the metro and express train, there was no need to arrange a taxi.
Verdict
A lovely InterContinental that I would happily return to on a future trip to Kuala Lumpur.
