InterContinental - Santiago de Chile

The InterContinental Santiago de Chile is a solid, typical representative of IHG's luxury brand — no big surprises, but with good service and a pleasant location in the Barrio El Golf neighbourhood. Particularly for points redemptions, it offers outstanding value for money.

Booking

The starting point of my South America trip was Santiago de Chile, thanks to a sensational Iberia deal. I made the booking through the IHG Rewards app and opted for an IHG Rewards points redemption, as the points value was simply excellent. Compared to the IHG points sale price and the cash rate on offer, the points booking worked out roughly a third cheaper.

Location

The hotel is located about 25 kilometres from Santiago de Chile Airport (SCL) in the Barrio El Golf neighbourhood, depending on the route. Allow at least 20 minutes for the journey, more in heavy traffic. Within walking distance you’ll find several restaurants, a shopping mall, and a jogging path along the river.

Check-In

Thanks to the overnight flight from Madrid arriving ahead of schedule, I found myself checking in rather earlier than planned — landing at 9 a.m. local time instead of 8:30. I was all the more pleasantly surprised to find my room already ready, which was likely helped by my IHG Platinum status. On top of that, I wasn’t assigned the lowest room category but instead received a Club Room on the 15th floor.

Room

The first impression of the room was good — always relative to the fact that this is IHG’s luxury brand. The entrance area and the room itself are well lit throughout. On the left is the bathroom, featuring a bathtub, toilet, and separate shower. I was pleasantly surprised by how bright the bathroom was. As expected, the essential toiletries (shower gel and shampoo) are provided.

The room itself, alongside the bed, features a cosy, elegant sofa, a small coffee table, and a proper writing desk.

The TV is adjustable and can be viewed comfortably from both the sofa and the bed. In the entrance area, the wardrobe, safe, and ironing board are all neatly integrated into a built-in wall cupboard.

Power outlets are conveniently placed throughout the room, and the desk also has international sockets (EU/USA).

Amenities

The fitness room on the 1st floor is generously equipped and accessible at any time via a lift that requires a key card. The rooftop pool offers a view over the city, though it’s not quite the kind of pool that would justify a longer stay on its own.

Restaurant

Breakfast is available as a buffet at the restaurant, though unfortunately I was unable to try it as I had an early morning flight. The same applies to the other dining outlets, as I chose to explore restaurants elsewhere in the city.

Check-Out

Check-out was once again smooth and friendly. A taxi could have been arranged for me had I needed one.

Verdict

For the points used, it was a very pleasant stay. A typical InterContinental hotel — one where you could easily spend more than just one night.
