Introduction
After a rather long day, I decided to book the Sheraton Pelikan in Hannover. How I liked it — you’ll find out in this review.
Booking and Location
As always, booked through a cashback site with Marriott. The hotel is about 20 minutes from Hannover Airport. During online check-in, you’re asked whether you need a spot in the underground parking garage (19 EUR). I got a bit lucky and was able to park for free on a side street. The hotel is located in an old factory building, which I personally find very charming. However, it can make finding your way around a bit tricky here and there.
Check In
I’ve rarely experienced such a friendly and relaxed check-in. In short, it was quick and incredibly welcoming. As always, you get to choose your benefits if you’re Marriott Platinum, Titanium, or Ambassador. I was given the choice between 1,000 points or a (surprise) Pelikan ballpoint pen. Breakfast was included anyway, they told me. For once, I went with the pen. To my surprise, the 1,000 points still showed up in my account later.
Room
When you enter the room, there’s a wardrobe on the right side, along with the minibar (complimentary) and the coffee machine.
On the left side, you go straight into the bathroom. At first, the design took some getting used to, but given the floor plan, it actually turned out very nicely. There are also two doors here — the other one leads directly from the bed into the bathroom. There’s a bathtub with a shower as well. Toiletries and other amenities are available either in dispensers or as individual items.
The comfortable bed takes up most of the room. For anyone wondering — there are plenty of power outlets as well as QR codes. These quickly show you what amenities await you at the hotel.
There are also several seating options, including a fairly comfortable chair and a desk.
Since all rooms are individually designed, the layout may naturally differ. Overall, though, I really like it.
Amenities
Club Lounge
Unfortunately, the Club Lounge is still closed — and from what I’ve read, it has been for quite some time. However, they’ve come up with what I think is a good alternative. Right next to the hotel is the Pelikan Bar. There, with the appropriate room category or status, you can order something from the food and drink menu in the evening. The big difference here is that everything is freshly prepared. I went for the wrap, but unfortunately it was a bit too salty for my taste. They immediately offered me a replacement though — absolutely TOP service!
Gym
If you travel a lot, you might want to hit the gym. The Sheraton Pelikan Hotel has one as well, though it’s shared with a fitness club called “Physicalpark.” I was only briefly asked whether I was a hotel guest. The gym is really great and very spacious. The equipment is modern, and as a highlight, there’s a terrace with a wonderful view. Too bad there’s no bar up there… but then again, you’re here to work out.
Breakfast
Breakfast is served in the 5th Avenue restaurant. Incidentally, that’s also where the Sheraton’s Club Lounge is located. You just need to give your room number and then you’re free to pick a table inside or outside.
The buffet is set up in a circular layout and offers an above-average selection. There’s also the option to have dishes freshly prepared. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves here.
Check Out
Very simple and quick. The bill was correct and was sent to me shortly after by email (as requested). Alternatively, you could also check out via the app.
Conclusion
The value for money was definitely right here. Due to my rather short stay, I wasn’t able to test everything thoroughly. But in my opinion, it’s a good Sheraton hotel that I’d happily return to.
