ANA InterContinental - Tokyo

The ANA InterContinental Tokyo delivers a solid, if not exceptional, experience for the price paid. The location with a metro station just five minutes' walk away is convenient, and the breakfast buffet with both Japanese and Western options is genuinely excellent. The service was friendly and the automatic Ambassador upgrade a welcome touch, though the room itself remains fairly average.

Booking

The goal was to find affordable yet somewhat luxurious nights in Tokyo over the New Year period. Tokyo has several IHG Group hotels, including two InterContinental properties in the city plus one in Yokohama. For the next two nights of my Tokyo stay, I chose the ANA InterContinental Tokyo. I made the booking through the IHG app and selected a Classic Room.

Location

From Haneda Airport the hotel is easy to reach by car or public transport; from Narita it takes considerably longer. The connections aren’t entirely straightforward as several transfers are required. For a stay in Tokyo, however, the location is ideal — the metro is just five minutes’ walk away. From there you can quickly reach Shinjuku and Tokyo stations, giving you access to all JR lines.

Check-In

The check-in area has several desks, including a dedicated Ambassador desk. The staff were very helpful and friendly; as an IC Ambassador I was upgraded to a Classic Premium room without even asking, which was a nice touch. The premium internet voucher and a late check-out until 4 PM were also assigned to me without any request.

Room

The first impression of the room is quite good. On the right side is the bathroom with a toilet and shower. As expected, toiletries such as shower gel and shampoo are provided.

In the room itself, alongside the bed there is a comfortable armchair, a desk chair, a small side table, and a work surface.

The television, which felt a little on the small side by my standards, is positioned at an awkward angle from the bed. As expected, there is a safe, an ironing board, and a coffee machine. And true to InterContinental standards, the promised water bottles are waiting in the room.

Bar / Restaurant

Breakfast is served as a buffet in the dedicated restaurant. With the hotel fully booked, the buffet was correspondingly busy. Both Japanese and Western dishes are on offer. The hotel also has several additional restaurants and bars.

Amenities

The outdoor pool is generously sized and offers space for sunbathing too, though it is closed during winter. The fitness room, on the other hand, is open 24 hours and has everything you need for a solid workout. One particularly nice touch: headphones are available to borrow free of charge.

Check-Out

As an Ambassador, I was automatically granted a late check-out until 4 PM. Check-out itself was once again smooth and friendly. I was able to reach my next hotel via public transport without any real hassle.
