Booking
The plan was to head to Sardinia over the Ascension Day long weekend. The island has several Hilton-brand hotels to choose from. Since my travel companions hadn’t been away for the past two years due to COVID, we went with the Conrad.
As a Diamond member, I booked one room on the 4-for-3 nights promotion and the other on the Bed and Breakfast rate. I booked through the Hilton app as usual — it’s clean and intuitive to navigate. I made the two bookings separately, more on that later.
Location
The Conrad Chia Laguna Sardinia is truly remote, but in return it’s very quiet and peaceful. The drive from the airport covers just over 50 kilometres and takes about an hour. Directly across the road sits the Curio Chia Laguna Sardinia, through which you can reach your own private beach with a short ten-minute walk. A golf cart shuttle is also available — given the unsettled weather, I took advantage of that service.
Contact
Because of flight delays, I wasn’t sure whether I’d make my connection to Cagliari, so at the last minute — on the plane just before departure — I called the hotel. They spontaneously arranged a transfer for me, which was a pleasant surprise.
Check-In
Due to flight disruptions (thanks, WEF), we arrived about an hour late and only reached the hotel around 10 p.m.
Check-in was as smooth and straightforward as ever. Hilton Honors happened to be running a nice promo offering triple points on stays of three or more nights, so I asked whether they could merge the two bookings.
With no fuss at all, everything was switched to a single booking and billed accordingly. I have to say — the staff at the front desk and Guest Relations were truly outstanding.
As a Diamond member, both rooms received a complimentary upgrade to a higher category. In hindsight, the B&B rate for the second room wouldn’t even have been necessary.
Afterwards, we got a quick overview and introduction to the hotel and resort so we could find our way around.
Room
The rooms are very spacious and spotlessly clean. Just inside the entrance on the right is the bathroom, followed by the bedroom and a living area leading out to a generous balcony.
The bathroom features both a bathtub and a separate shower. The toiletries are of the high quality you’d expect from Conrad.
The balcony has two comfortable armchairs and a table — I made good use of them in the evenings.
The minibar is generously stocked and reasonably priced. The fruit bowl and bottle of wine with personalised greeting cards made for a lovely welcome gift.
The room’s tech setup is more than adequate for me. USB charging ports for mobile devices and premium Wi-Fi are essentials these days — the only caveat is that the power sockets are Italian (Type L), so an adapter is needed, but that’s easy to plan for. The living area TV can also be swivelled to face the bed.
Amenities
Besides the spa, there are several pools on the property. The gym is open 24/7 and well equipped.
Sunloungers on the beach are complimentary for Conrad guests. The little beach bar has its own charm, and the tranquillity during the shoulder season is really lovely. The shuttle to and from the hotel is a great perk when the weather is changeable.
Dining
The Conrad has several on-site restaurants, though not all of them are open during the shoulder season. The food is high quality, and the breakfast buffet is well stocked with fresh and locally sourced dishes.
The restaurant at the Curio resort serves genuinely delicious pizza — when you’re already in Bella Italia, you have to make the most of it.
Check-Out
Check-out was uneventful — everything was consolidated onto a single bill, which combined nicely with the triple-points promotion for a very rewarding stay.
Verdict
I can genuinely recommend this hotel and will definitely return. The seclusion is perfect for disconnecting and unwinding. The only thing I missed was a lounge, but that’s a minor gripe and easy to overlook.
