Booking
For a winter weekend in Kandersteg in the Bernese Oberland, I needed to find a hotel for the weekend. I settled on the Bernerhof, a family-run hotel in Kandersteg, and booked my room directly through the hotel’s website.
Location
It’s about a 5-minute walk from Kandersteg train station, so there’s no need for a taxi or shuttle. Kandersteg itself is in the Bernese Oberland, roughly an hour by train or car from Bern. The Adelboden–Lenk ski area is around 40 minutes away by car or public transport.
Check-In
Check-in was courteous and pleasant. The hotel and its amenities were explained to me, and I also received a guest card for free use of public transport as far as Adelboden.
Room
The first impression of the room is quite good — bright and welcoming. On the right side is the bathroom with toilet and shower. As I’ve come to expect from the Hilton chain, the usual toiletries are provided here too, including shower gel and shampoo.
In the room itself, there’s a work surface with power outlets beside the bed. The outlets are conveniently placed, though unfortunately there are no USB charging points.
The TV is easily visible from the bed. As expected, there’s a safe and a wardrobe.
Bar / Restaurant
Breakfast is available as a buffet in the restaurant. There are plenty of seats, and the lobby area is also a pleasant spot to relax outside of restaurant opening hours.
Amenities
The hotel is well situated. The wellness area features a sauna and an experience shower, though unfortunately there is no pool for a proper wind-down.
The fireplace room serves as a kind of lounge, offering seating, coffee machines, books, and board games.
Check-Out
Check-out was equally straightforward and friendly.
Verdict
The stay was good value for money, and the location was superb.
