Hotel DoubleTree by Hilton, Luxembourg

The DoubleTree by Hilton Luxembourg offers solid Hilton quality overall, but with a few caveats — including a water issue in the adjoining room and limited access to amenities such as the pool and sauna. Breakfast was a pleasant surprise, the room was spacious and clean, yet the hotel didn't fully win me over. Due to a lack of alternatives among my preferred hotel chains, it still deserves a second chance.

Introduction

My friend and fellow blog author Mr. Muellair and I had found a great deal departing from LUX, which meant we needed to sleep “somewhere” the night before. We landed on the DoubleTree by Hilton.

Location

There isn’t a great selection of hotels right at the airport (or at least none that appealed to us). We took a taxi, which cost around €25 and didn’t take particularly long. That said, there isn’t much else immediately around the hotel. It’s a walkable distance into the city, which we were happy to do.

Check-In

Check-in was quick and smooth. We were briefly informed about the complimentary breakfast, but otherwise it was fairly uneventful. Armed with the DoubleTree cookie and our room key, we headed to the lift.

Room

I had already noticed before arrival that I’d received an upgrade. We made our way to the room on the 13th floor. As has become the norm lately, the rooms were sealed.

Just inside the entrance, the room features a separate toilet. Beyond that opened up a large living area.

The living area has a large table with chairs as well as a comfortable seating corner.

Next came the bedroom, which connected directly to the main bathroom. There was also a wardrobe with a safe and an ironing board.

The room also had its own kitchenette — though not particularly well-equipped, to be honest.

Amenities / Recreation

Next to the reception there’s a small business center, which was closed. The pool and sauna were also only very… let’s say difficult to access, or simply closed. I’ll let the photos speak for themselves. Unfortunately, none of this was mentioned at check-in.

Breakfast

This genuinely surprised me in a positive way. The selection was really good and fresh egg dishes were available on request (though I had to wait quite a long time for them). Other than that, the service was attentive and there was plenty of space. Again, I’ll let the photos do the talking.

Check-Out

Check-out was quick, and I received the invoice by email shortly afterwards.

Verdict

Solid Hilton quality overall, but with the odd shortcoming. The water in the other room was of a rather questionable quality (though in fairness, part of the room rate was refunded for that). The night was good, the room clean. Given the lack of alternatives — at least among my preferred hotel chains — I’d come back, but it didn’t fully convince me. Still, it earns a second chance.
