InterContinental Davos (Pre-COVID)

The InterContinental Davos impresses with bright, modern rooms, friendly and attentive service, and an excellent breakfast buffet. Thanks to the IHG Ambassador Programme, the property offers exceptional value — including upgrades and lounge access. Despite its current closure, a return visit in any season comes highly recommended.

Das „goldene Ei“ kennt man nicht nur durch das WEF sondern auch, weil es hier und da schonmal Schlagzeilen gemacht hat. Wie es mir hier gefallen hat, erfahrt ihr in diesem Review.

Booking

The booking was made through the IHG Ambassador Programme, which among other benefits includes a certificate that lets you stay two nights but pay for only one. A specific room category must be available at the hotel for this to work, which isn’t always easy to find — but a quick call to the hotel sorted it out. On top of that, you receive a guaranteed upgrade to the next higher room category. It therefore makes sense to book a room below suite level or without club lounge access, since you’ll receive that through the upgrade anyway. The room rate generally matches the flexible rate.

Location

If you’re arriving by train, get off at Davos Dorf, where you can either arrange a complimentary pick-up from the hotel or take a bus. On foot it’s around 15 minutes. Those arriving by car will find a few free parking spaces directly in front of the hotel, with paid parking available in the adjacent garage.

Check-In

Room

The room felt bright, modern, and welcoming — that’s probably the best way to describe it. On the right side there’s a lovely bathroom with both a bathtub and shower. Ample toiletries as well as a bathrobe and slippers are also provided.

The living area features an extremely comfortable seating corner, a Nespresso machine, a TV, and of course a good bed. A small welcome gift was also waiting for me here.

There’s naturally a safe and plenty of storage space as well. Unfortunately the photo quality isn’t great, so you’ll just have to take my word for it.

The balcony is equally inviting, with two chairs and a wonderful view — what more could you ask for.

Lounge

Thanks to the upgrade, I also received access to the Club Lounge. It’s a pleasantly spacious area. The selection of snacks from midday onwards is quite decent. In the evenings a happy hour kicks in, with a noticeably expanded range of food and drinks.

Amenities

The hotel has two pools, which aren’t particularly large for a property of this size. Alongside those, there are several saunas.

One notable feature is a small Club Lounge for hotel guests in the village during the winter season. The hotel shuttle runs back and forth there regularly.

Dining

Breakfast was fairly busy, which made it tricky to get good photos of the very extensive buffet. The quality and quantity were excellent, however, and the service was outstanding as well.

Dinner at the hotel’s own restaurant is equally impressive and I can only recommend it.

Check-Out

A late check-out was proactively offered — something that unfortunately isn’t standard practice at many hotels. Everything else was handled correctly and very efficiently.

Verdict

Unfortunately the hotel is currently closed indefinitely, which I find a real shame. The hardware is very modern and beautiful, and the staff are exceptionally friendly. I would very much like to return and enjoy it in any season.
