After a rather long (and not exactly direct) flight, we headed to the Le Méridien Hotel in Chiang Mai. The central location and a good price were the deciding factors.
This is a Marriott Category 5 hotel, meaning a points redemption runs between 30,000 and 40,000 points per night depending on the season.
Booking
As always, the booking was made directly through Marriott to collect points and take advantage of the perks that come with status membership. Unfortunately, I was a little late booking this time — suddenly there was no room available for the night of December 31st to January 1st. Since there is a 48-hour guarantee that ensures a room, I booked that one night through the reservations hotline at a slightly higher rate. Keep in mind that the price in this case is typically the expensive so-called “rack rate.” That said, I ultimately didn’t have to pay the full amount.
Check-In
Since the luggage had apparently gotten stranded somewhere between Zurich, Frankfurt, Warsaw, Doha, and Chiang Mai, the check-in staff were initially a little surprised. All the more helpful they were, though — I really want to highlight this. The service in handling the situation was exceptionally attentive. On top of the usual formalities, there was also an upgrade waiting for us.
Room
The room can comfortably be described as generous. In addition to the bedroom, there is a separate living area. Both spaces are very open in design, separated only by a half-wall. Each side also features a large television.
There is also a very large seating area with a sofa, a small table with chairs, and a workspace with a comfortable chair.
The bedroom itself is equally spacious and nicely furnished, with a sofa along the window front.
The bathroom has a special feature: a beautiful freestanding bathtub with a wonderful view over Chiang Mai.
Beyond that, there is a shower, a toilet, and a separate guest WC. Toiletries are well stocked. There are also additional water bottles that are replenished regularly.
You’ll also find a tea and coffee setup in the room, along with a minibar.
Cleanliness was excellent throughout, and the room was very bright — something I particularly appreciate.
Lounge
Once again, it was difficult to get decent photos here. So there’s a bit more text than I’d ideally like.
Access to the lounge is either through your booked room category or via your Bonvoy status. The lounge spans two floors, making it generously sized.
Breakfast can be taken here, and special requests are accommodated — in addition to the buffet, you can also order egg dishes such as Eggs Benedict. It takes a moment, but the quality is definitely very good.
Throughout the day, soft drinks are available, and in the evening there is a happy hour. You can see the corresponding menu here:
In the evening, there is also a very appealing selection of finger food and more substantial snacks that could, in some cases, easily replace dinner.
Check-Out
This went smoothly. I thanked the team once more for the excellent service, and the bill was accurate.
Verdict
Somehow this hotel has found a place in my heart — and I would return, both for the location and especially for the incredibly warm service.
