Let’s be honest — things are pretty dead at Paderborn Airport right now (130 passengers flew in February 2021), and it’s always been more of a — forgive me — provincial airport. That said, I do enjoy flying through here every now and then. The lounge has stayed pretty much the same over the years, so I figured it was worth writing a review.
Access
At check-in you should receive a door code for the lounge. You’ll get this with Lufthansa Frequent Traveller status or a Business Class ticket. Enter the code on the right side of the door. There’s also a phone there, just in case you forgot to write the code down.
Location
Since Paderborn-Lippstadt Airport is quite compact, the lounge isn’t hard to find. After security (and Duty Free), turn right. The lounge is at the end of the corridor.
Amenities
These are pretty quick to cover. As you enter the lounge, there’s a coffee machine on the right along with a drinks station. You’ll find beer (Warsteiner), water, orange juice, and apple juice. That’s it. If you’re lucky there might be some newspapers in the lounge, but that’s more of a happy coincidence than a given.
The lounge is split into two areas — the back section has IKEA-style seating and a printer. The printer, however, has never actually worked during any of my visits. There’s also free Wi-Fi, though this is the airport’s network and is available for free throughout the terminal for two hours anyway.
Verdict
I’ll admit I’m a little biased here since this is the airport of my old hometown. What I do appreciate is that there’s a lounge here at all. Just don’t expect too much — it’s best understood as a nice gesture rather than a premium offering.
