Introduction
A special surprise awaited me at check-in of the newly opened Hyatt Place, which I was very pleased about.
Location
The Hyatt Place is located in the Circle on the east side, so directly opposite the Hyatt Regency. This means when you walk from Zurich Airport via the bus station to the main square in the Circle, you turn left into Nordgasse. If you don’t want to go up the stairs, there is a lift on the right. Once at the top, you continue straight ahead; on the right there is a room with a Circle model (for those interested, Zurich Airport offers not only airport tours and rides, but also Circle guided tours), and then you turn right, on the left you see Spaces, and then you turn left before the stairs and you can already see the entrance to the Hyatt Place. Right after the second door there is a lift on the left to go up to the lobby on the second floor, or you can take the stairs up; on the right side there is a colourful wall that you should take a closer look at… the keyword is coloured pencils… I don’t want to give away more.
You can also reach Nordgasse underground from the Airport Shopping; if you head towards Check-In 1 on the main level where the post office and Migros are located, when you pass the Credit Suisse ATMs on the right, a tunnel (known at the airport as the Star Wars Tunnel) leads to the right into the Circle and to the P4 parking garage. At the end of the tunnel, turn left and then go up the stairs / escalator and you will be standing in front of the small staircase, with the lift located to the right of it.
The entrance to the lobby is very stylishly designed with a lot of creative attention to detail.
Check In
A happy coincidence had it that I was also allowed to check in as the first guest at this new opening. I had booked a room with a sleeper sofa, so a larger room, and as an aviation enthusiast I was given a room with a view of the airport, more precisely you can see part of runway 10/28 as well as 14/32 and of course Dock E. What more could you want. The Front Desk Manager personally showed me the room and explained how the hotel is laid out. Later I was even allowed to attend the inauguration apéro, which was of course a great experience — at this point a heartfelt thank you to the Hyatt crew!
Room
The room was on the eighth floor and, as described above, offered a great view of the airport. It had a king bed with a sleeper sofa and a round side table. The curtains can be opened and closed at the push of a button, and the ceiling lamp also looks very good.
Sufficient power sockets have also been considered, so you shouldn’t have any problem charging different devices. Wifi was free throughout the hotel and the speed was perfectly fine.
Of course there is also a coffee/tea maker in the room, and a free bottle of water was also provided.
Anyone who likes aircraft and airports will surely feel extra at home here.
The bathroom also offers a large shower, and care products from the Barney Kenet brand were provided as well — so what more could you want.
Lounge
There is no lounge, but you can enjoy yourself in the Zoom Bar or the Zoom Restaurant. As a guest you can simply scan the QR code at the table and order the desired food and pay directly or charge it to the room.
Of course, there is also the option of ordering food from the staff, which I recommend to all airport employees as you can take advantage of a discount. The cuisine is kept “GLOCAL”, so there is of course a great burger, or you can order a fine “Züri-Gschnätzlets”, i.e. sliced veal in a fine cream sauce, accompanied of course by a “Rösti”.
There is also a very tasty beer at the Zoom Bar, and unlike at the Hyatt Regency, the reception, the Zoom Bar and the Zoom Restaurant flow seamlessly into one another, so they are not spatially separated. Even though everything is brought together in this way, comfort did not fall short even at good occupancy in the evening — you could have very good conversations.
Amenities / Recreation
The Hyatt Place offers a gym on the second floor with modern equipment for cardio training as well as short dumbbells, so everything you need to complete a workout. The view of the ring road around the airport encouraged me to go faster during endurance training — after all, you want to keep up with the cars…
Breakfast
The breakfast buffet offers a rich breakfast. There was a good selection of different breads, various cereals, as well as sliced meat and cheese. In addition, there is a warm kitchen with potatoes, tomatoes, fried bacon, mushrooms, and you can also order scrambled eggs or omelettes with various ingredients — everything worked tip-top. Of course, water, various fruit juices, tea and coffee must not be missing.
Check Out
“Unfortunately” I had to head abroad again that day; I would have liked to add another night. Instead, I took advantage of the late check-out and checked out at 1:45 pm. The crew was well prepared, it went very quickly, and I was able to take the bill with me right away. I was warmly bid farewell by the crew and then went back towards the airport, where my next adventure awaited me.
Conclusion
The Hyatt Place in “the Circle at Zurich Airport”, newly opened on 15 December 2021, exceeded my expectations. The staff were also very friendly, and personally I did not notice anything that did not work properly on the first day. As I said, I think that in these rather special times it is not a given that one is “simply” allowed to travel, and I also think that as a guest one should “say thank you” one or two more times to show the staff appropriate respect. I can only praise the Hyatt Place crew — I was very satisfied and grateful for the great stay, and the honour of being allowed to check in as the first guest was once again a very special experience. At this point, once again a heartfelt thank you, merci.
