Lufthansa Senator Lounge Schengen (FRA)

The Lufthansa Senator Lounge Frankfurt impresses with a solid selection of food, drinks, and amenities such as showers and a rest area. Outside of peak hours, the lounge is genuinely pleasant to use – however, the chronic overcrowding during peak times remains its biggest drawback.

3.8 / 5

The Lufthansa Senator Lounge in the Schengen area of Frankfurt Airport is well known to many frequent flyers. Still, it’s worth taking a closer look — especially when you happen to have it almost entirely to yourself during a quiet evening hour. That’s exactly what happened to me recently, and so I was able to take my time exploring the lounge and reviewing it for you.

Location & Access

The Senator Lounge is located past the duty-free area, heading towards gates A50.

Opening hours: Daily from 05:00 to 22:00 — considerably longer than the First Class Lounge, which closes at 21:30. Tip: Best to check the current hours directly with Lufthansa.

You can access the lounge with

  • a Star Alliance Gold status
  • a Business Class ticket
  • or an American Express Platinum Card (in combination with a Star Alliance flight)

Quick note: If you’re flying Singapore Airlines in First Class, you’ll also only get access to this lounge — it officially counts as a Star Alliance First Class Lounge.

Amenities & Offerings

Upon entering, you’ll find a service counter on the left where the lounge team can help with ticket or travel questions, along with a selection of newspapers and magazines.

Right next to it, the food and drink area begins:

  • Self-service station for soft drinks (not everyone’s cup of tea, I know)
  • A selection of alcoholic beverages including sparkling wine and wine
  • Daily changing hot dishes
  • A salad bar in the center
  • Soup & smaller snacks round out the offering

I’ll just let the pictures speak for themselves here.

Seating areas: Toward the back, you’ll find plenty of seating options — some separated by room dividers, which provides a degree of privacy. During the day, however, it tends to get very crowded here. In the evening or outside peak hours, the lounge is a much more relaxed experience.

Power outlets? Plenty available! Unless your neighbor is charging five devices at once — but even then, you’ll almost always find a free socket.

Work area? Yes, as you can see in the photo above, there is one as well.

Other Areas

Showers & well-maintained restrooms — a real plus in my book

Phone booths on the right side past the entrance — unfortunately, they’re not used enough…

A dimly lit rest area, ideal for a quick nap, even though it’s often not as quiet in here as you’d hope

Modern toilet with sink and mirror

Verdict

I’ve known the Senator Lounge from earlier times and was satisfied then just as I am now. The offerings are solid, the comfort is respectable, and especially outside peak travel times, it’s a genuinely pleasant place to relax. The persistent issue (as with many lounges these days) is overcrowding during peak hours — but that’s probably the price you pay for a good lounge experience at one of Europe’s largest hubs.
