Stuttgart Lufthansa Senator Lounge (STR)

The new Lufthansa Lounges in Stuttgart present themselves as modern, functional, and generally inviting. In their current form, however, the food and beverage offering in particular falls short of expectations. Should the quality at the Barista Bar be adjusted, the lounges could tap into their potential much more effectively and establish themselves as an attractive meeting point for frequent flyers.

Introduction

Different voices enrich our blog. To kick off the new year, we’re very pleased to present a guest contribution from @Ralf Instagram Ralf_RUE about the newly opened Lufthansa Lounge in Stuttgart. Many thanks for your inspiring report!

The Lufthansa Lounge at Stuttgart Airport had been closed since the beginning of the Covid era due to fire safety regulations. With the official reopening on December 16, 2025, travelers once again have access to a Lufthansa-operated lounge at this location. Two days after the reopening, on December 18, 2025, I was able to see the new premises for myself for the first time.

Location & Access

At the time of the visit, the boarding pass scanners were not yet operational, which occasionally led to short wait times. An elevator to the lounge was either not available or not clearly signposted. The entry rules follow the same standard as all Lufthansa-operated lounges — meaning access is granted with a valid Business Class ticket or Star Alliance Gold status (for the Lufthansa Group, that’s FTL, SEN, or HON status).

Seating Areas

At first glance, the lounge appears understated in its design, yet offers ample space and presents itself in a modern Lufthansa Allegris style. The Senator Lounge makes a clear design statement with its centrally placed Barista Bar. The offering is complemented by three soundproofed phone booths, suitable for calls or virtual meetings. The Business Lounge is nearly a mirror image in layout and differs only in the details.

For a quieter alternative, the Business Lounge is worth considering — it scores with a small separated area for plane spotting, more space overall, and a more relaxed atmosphere. Switching over can be particularly worthwhile in the early afternoon.

Food & Drinks

In keeping with the Christmas season, red cabbage with roast pork and mashed potatoes was on offer. The absence of classic alternatives like duck — or at least another option such as poularde (if they’re clearly trying to cut costs) — remains baffling. The vegetarian option consisted of dried-out Käsespätzle that failed to convince either visually or in taste. The food selection is identical in the Senator and Business Lounge. The drink selection at the bar also matches the familiar Lufthansa standard from Frankfurt and Munich.

A particular highlight is the Barista Bar. Alongside classic coffee specialties, offerings include an Espresso Martini as well as carrot cake and Christstollen as afternoon snacks. A professional La Marzocco portafilter machine is in use. However, the cappuccino served fell noticeably short of expectations and was more reminiscent of average vending machine coffee. Given the high-end equipment, there’s a clear need for improvement here — a truly convincing café bar would have the potential to become a genuine unique selling point.

Conclusion

The new Lufthansa Lounges in Stuttgart present themselves as modern, functional, and generally inviting. In their current form, however, the food and beverage offering in particular falls short of expectations. Should the quality at the Barista Bar be fine-tuned, the lounges could realize their potential far better and establish themselves as an attractive meeting point for frequent flyers.
