Temporary Swiss HON Circle / First Class Lounge Geneva Airport (GVA)

The temporary Swiss HON Circle Lounge in Geneva is housed in a partitioned section of the Business Class Lounge due to water damage, and while it serves its purpose, it cannot compete with the other Swiss First Class Lounges. Swiss has made the best of the situation – the attentive service was particularly impressive. A visit to the actual HON Lounge remains to be seen.

Introduction

One of the reasons for flying via Geneva this time was to visit the HON Lounge there and write a review. Unfortunately, a few days prior there had been water damage in the lounge, so I wasn’t able to visit the actual HON Lounge. However, in my opinion they handled the situation very nicely — they cordoned off a separate area in the Business Class Lounge where you can spend your time.

Location and Access

As already mentioned, the HON Lounge is actually located right next to the Senator Lounge on level M, but for now it’s housed in a separate section of the Business Class Lounge.

You can gain access either with a First Class ticket on Lufthansa or Swiss on the same day (arriving or departing) or as a HON member, regardless of booking class. At first, the staff were a bit confused as to why I wanted to enter the HON Lounge — though that was my fault. In the rush, I accidentally handed over my friend Muellair’s boarding pass to be scanned. Once that was cleared up, they found our names on a list right away and checked us off.

Opening hours are currently daily from 6:30 to 20:30.

Furnishings

Due to the partition from the Business Class Lounge, only the small rear section is available here. That said, it does have two larger, comfortable seating areas as well as two tables where you can have a proper meal. There are also plenty of options to charge your electronic devices. The space isn’t particularly large, but we never saw more than four people there. Most of the time we had it to ourselves.

Food and Drinks

I photographed the current menu — unfortunately it’s not as extensive as you’d normally expect from Swiss.

The presentation of the food was quite nice, by the way, even though for the breakfast selection they partly took items from the Business Class buffet and arranged them a bit more elegantly. This isn’t a criticism — I still think they tried to make the best of the situation here.

There’s also a small but fine selection of drinks.

Service

Staff checked in regularly and asked if everything was alright. A great example was when we arrived and asked for a glass of Champagne. Apparently the Champagne wasn’t cold enough, and shortly after they brought a new bottle and offered that instead.

Conclusion

After the initial difficulties, the lounge was perfectly adequate. No, certainly not what you’d expect from the other Swiss First Class / HON Lounges, but they’re at least making an effort to offer something. It’s also worth keeping in mind that Geneva isn’t exactly a major Swiss hub. Still, I look forward to coming back and being able to write a review of the “real” First Class Lounge.
