Booking
As part of an exciting flight deal, Brazil was the destination. Since I wanted to relax a little, I booked the onward flight to Rio de Janeiro along with it.
In Rio, it was clear that I wanted to be at Copacabana — sun, beach, and sea, what more could you want. At that time, the Hilton had a very attractive rate for a room with a view of Copacabana. I booked the hotel via the website for four nights.
Location
The location is truly sensational, right on Avenida Atlantica — just cross the street and you’re at the famous Copacabana. Depending on which airport you choose, it’s between 15 and 45 minutes to the hotel. From the city airport Rio Santos Dumont you’re there in no time; from GIG, the international airport, you should allow about three quarters of an hour depending on the time of day. With Uber or a pre-arranged shuttle you’ll travel most safely, especially at night.
Check In
Check-in in the evening went smoothly and pleasantly. The hotel was explained to me, including where you can move around relatively safely during the day. As a Diamond Member I received an upgrade to a suite.
Room
The first impression of the room is quite good. The good lighting is important when you come home at night. On the left side is the bathroom with toilet and whirlpool/shower. I was positively surprised by the view from the bathroom. As usual, the most essential toiletries (shower gel and shampoo) are available.
In the spacious room itself, alongside the generous bed there is also a sofa.
The TV with the relevant channels is easy to see from the bed. As usual, there is a safe, ironing board, coffee machine, and a small selection of snacks.
Restaurant
Breakfast is available as a well-stocked buffet; for Diamond Members there is a separate dining area where requests for freshly prepared egg dishes are taken. The generous buffet leaves nothing to be desired. The fresh fruits are a dream.
Amenities
The hotel has a well-equipped fitness center, which offers everything necessary for a workout, unfortunately without a view. On the other hand, the rooftop pool is great — both heated, and the pool bar offers everything needed for a relaxed evening. The food and drinks at the rooftop bar are excellent and fairly priced. The whole thing feels upscale and well-kept; I made extensive use of this area every evening.
The spa area offers everything needed for relaxation, and here too the prices are fair.
Check Out
Check-out here was once again straightforward and friendly; I then headed to the next hotel by Uber.
Verdict
The rooms show their age a little, but the location, service, and staff make up for it. It definitely wasn’t my last time there.
