Premium Economy British Airways (BA)

British Airways Premium Economy (World Traveller Plus) offers good value for money on shorter long-haul routes, with comfortable seats, solid catering, and complimentary drinks. The entertainment system is outdated, which slightly dampens the overall impression. If you want to avoid Business Class prices, this is a solid choice.

3.5 / 5

How do you get from Dubai back to Europe, or more precisely Zurich, cheaply and yet not in Eco? Without several individual tickets within a reasonable time. The arrival time was due to work, so only a morning arrival was an option.

Booking

I booked the flight directly via the British Airways website, and the attractive price for a return ticket tempted me to take the return flight as well. I actually wanted to book the flight in Economy, but the small difference led me to book Premium Economy directly. At British Airways, Premium Economy is called World Traveler Plus. The routing of the ticket was: DXB-LHR-ZRH-LHR-DXB and gave 200 tier points, 600 are required for BA Silver status, so it was also a good start for the requalification. The fact that the flight was operated by an A380 also spoke in favor of this booking.

Check-In

I arrived at Dubai Airport in Terminal 1 late in the evening. As I was at the airport early enough, I wanted to drop off my suitcase quickly. British Airways has several check-in counters and, as usual, individual counters are open for guests in First and Business Class, as well as corresponding status guests. The remaining counters are for Economy Class passengers. My baggage was labeled for Zurich and my boarding pass for the flight was printed out. As the flight was going to be full, I asked for an upgrade, which I thought would have been very expensive. So I stayed in the window seat I had already chosen.

Security check and passport control

The security check went smoothly and quickly despite the lack of a priority line. Departure from the United Arab Emirates was also very quick.

I left the lounge shortly before the specified boarding time and made my way to the gate.

Boarding began relatively late, but was still sufficient for a departure within the specified time. Guests with reduced mobility boarded first, followed by families. Then it was the turn of Zone 1 with First Class passengers. Status customers can board with Business Class passengers in Group 2. The remaining passengers are asked to board depending on the deck (main/upper deck).

Cabin

The Premium Economy cabin in the Airbus A380 is arranged in a 2-3-2 layout. The practical features are the storage compartments between the side walls and the seat.

In my opinion, the entertainment system is past its best, the selection of movies, series and music is manageable. The headphones are of reasonable quality and are ready at the seat.

The seats themselves are comfortable in a pleasant color and can be adjusted easily and comfortably. Even if you are over six feet tall, you can sit comfortably and even sleep here. The sockets offer 110V and USB plugs, so you can easily charge a laptop as well as mobile devices.

There was already a small, comfortable cushion and a blanket at the seat, which was pleasant and also kept you warm.

Catering

Shortly after departure at 2 a.m. local time, a small rolled up but warm, tasty pizza was served as a snack, the selection of drinks in Premium Economy is good and included in the price.

For breakfast, you could choose between various hot dishes from the small menu..

There will be a separate review for the (very good) amenity kit in British Airways World Travel Class.

Conclusion

As a frequent flyer with experience in all classes, I can highly recommend British Airways Premium Economy (World Traveler Plus) on shorter long-haul routes, especially when business fares are enormously more expensive.
