The DoubleTree by Hilton Dubai Al Jadaf delivers as a no-fuss transit hotel with speedy check-in, comfortable rooms, and a varied breakfast buffet. Its location just 15 minutes from the airport and solid value for money make it the ideal choice for a stopover night. For longer stays, a hotel closer to the city centre or the beaches would be a better bet.
If you're a fan of classic luxury, the LXR Habtoor Palace delivers exceptionally well — the name Palace is no coincidence. The hotel impressed with a generous upgrade, excellent service, and elegantly designed rooms. The only downside is the somewhat inconvenient connection to the metro in extreme heat.
The Hampton Dubai Airport is a solid, affordable option for a short stopover. The stay is functional and wins mainly as a budget-friendly way to collect Hilton nights — but it doesn't inspire much excitement.
British Airways Premium Economy (World Traveller Plus) offers good value for money on shorter long-haul routes, with comfortable seats, solid catering, and complimentary drinks. The entertainment system is outdated, which slightly dampens the overall impression. If you want to avoid Business Class prices, this is a solid choice.
Turkish Airlines Economy impresses primarily with its attractive value for money on short and medium-haul routes. The cabin, catering, and generous entertainment offering are solid for economy class. If you're flexible on seat selection and comfort, this is a good alternative to pricier direct flights.
Ethiopian Airlines offers a solid Business Class on the A350 with lie-flat seats in a 2-2-2 layout, good entertainment, and regular drink service. The cabin, however, shows signs of wear quickly. As a Miles & More redemption, the DXB-ADD-ZRH routing is an attractive value proposition thanks to low taxes and a long lie-flat rest period.
The Waldorf Astoria in Dubai's Financial District impresses with spacious suites, attentive service, and an excellent location near the Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa. If you're looking for a touch of luxury, this is the place to be – an absolute highlight.
The Lufthansa Senator Lounge in Dubai offers solid comfort in typical Lufthansa style – with a good food and beverage selection, showers, and plenty of seating. It can get crowded during peak times, but as a base for the overnight flight to Europe, it serves its purpose well.
The Conrad Dubai impresses with a generously sized corner room, an excellently equipped Executive Lounge, and an attractive price-to-performance ratio. Service could be a bit quicker, and the points credit didn't go through smoothly, but thanks to Diamond status and complimentary late check-out, the stay was a complete success. A clear return visit.
The Lufthansa Business Class on the Zurich–Frankfurt–Dubai route disappointed with a listless crew, absent Senator recognition, and minor catering shortfalls. The value of the 199 CHF upgrade was acceptable, but overall the experience fell short of expectations. All things considered, it was still great to be back in the air.
The Ahlan Business Class Lounge in Dubai is functional and never overcrowded, but feels a little sterile. Highlights include the staffed bar and the large Flightradar 24 display. The author would definitely stop by again on a future visit.
Despite the older A330 product, the flight in Swiss Business Class was a real treat – an exceptionally attentive and motivated crew ensured a relaxed travel experience. The food, featuring beef entrecôte tataki, braised beef brisket, and yuzu lemon meringue, impressed across the board. Only the small entertainment display and the limited film selection slightly dampened the otherwise very positive impression.
The Emirates Business Class Amenity Kit in collaboration with BVLGARI sets new standards among airline amenity kits. With premium products from BVLGARI, Gillette, and Rexona, plus a reusable box, it leaves virtually nothing to be desired. One of the best business class amenity kits out there.
The Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm Jumeirah impresses with excellent service, generously sized rooms, and an outstanding breakfast. The location on the Palm is a bit removed from the main attractions, but offers exactly the peaceful atmosphere you'd want for a short stay. Anyone visiting Dubai and looking to experience the Palm will find this hotel — especially during the off-season — a clear recommendation.
