The Swiss Lounge in the non-Schengen Terminal D has finally reopened after a complete renovation. Here’s how I liked it during a visit.
Location and Access
After passport control, simply follow the signs to the Swiss Lounge or the transit hotel. At the transit hotel, keep right and walk along the corridor. The entrance to the Swiss Lounge is impossible to miss.
Access is granted to First Class SWISS and Lufthansa guests, HON Circle, Miles & More Senator, Business Class SWISS, Lufthansa and Star Alliance, Miles & More Frequent Traveller
Opening hours: daily 05:30 - 22:00
Amenities
After scanning your boarding pass, the new layout and the many different seating options immediately catch your eye. To help you find your way around, there’s also an overview map right here.
On the right side, there’s a room with very different seating areas. At first glance it might seem a bit randomly thrown together, but I really liked the concept and it sets itself apart from other (mostly sterile) lounges. It certainly helps that wood is used throughout, creating a very pleasant and warm atmosphere.
The well-distributed splashes of color also give the lounge a somehow personal touch that I really appreciate.
There’s also a slightly separated work area on the right side, plus three cabins where you can work with a bit more privacy.
Food and Drinks
This is where the Swiss Lounge really delivers with the new concept — everything feels very fresh and well-organized. You can easily help yourself and the quality impressed me. Depending on the time of day, different dishes are available.
There are also plenty of seats with power outlets as well as some recliners. Since some seats were always occupied, I wasn’t able to get sufficiently good photos here.
For me it’s always a highlight when you not only have natural light but also a nice view of the apron. The lounge really scores here.
The only downside is perhaps that there are still no showers in the lounge. These continue to be located in the corridor.
Verdict
Good things take time — Swiss did take a while here, but the result is truly convincing. With its open areas, it’s reminiscent of the Alpine Lounge in the A concourse and I definitely like it a lot.
